Brazil isn’t all about bossa nova

Binario hail from that most exotic of locations, Ipanema Beach, more famous as the setting for Getz/Gilberto's ‘Girl From...’.

The band, however are a much more modern and street level proposition, powering their gear from car batteries to perform after hours on the famous beach. Boasting two drummers, the groove takes centre stage on a number of the tracks here, showcasing not only Brazil’s rhythms but from much, much farther afield. The band cite Radiohead and Can as influences as much as the expected Gilberto Gil and Caetano, explaining their more experimental, psychedelic moments. Binario show that Brazil isn’t all about bossa nova; there is some seriously heavy funk going on here.
