Beck - Chemtrails

The new single from Beck starts with a haunting intro featuring a Beach Boys style quiet falsetto and a quivering organ.

However a stark piano suddenly intrudes and you can feel that this song’s dark side will be expressed in a far more intense fashion than Brian Wilson’s demons ever imposed. It mostly takes the form of crashing, irregular drum patterns, which takes the lonesome psychedelic music and slaps it round the face with a spiked, heavy metal glove. Produced by Danger Mouse, Chemtrails is a bit like Beck fronting Gnarls Barkley and very different from anything he’s done before.
