At the top of his game
Apparat - The Devil’s Walk

Better known to friends and loved ones as Sascha Ring, Berlin-based electro pioneer Apparat released his first album in 2001. A decade on, and ‘The Devil’s Walk’ sees the German at the top of his game. Swathed in a darkness that’s both comforting and unsettling, the ten ambient tracks combine sparse beauty, hushed vocals and a sense of impending danger. ‘The Soft Voices Die’, with its steady but urgent insistence, could soundtrack the final moments of the planet, while ‘Black Water’ undulates, paradoxically, with a cold warmth that makes you feel both lost and loved, happy and sad. A record for late, empty, lonely nights.
