Andrew Thomas – Between Buildings And Trees

A thoughful, sincere beauty.

Recently heard on their ‘Pop Ambient 2010’ album, Andrew Thomas is a mainstay of Kompakt’s ambient output, overseen by the label’s co-founder Wolfgang Voigt.

The New Zealander’s song titles are as evocative as his music, ‘A Dream Of A Spider’, ‘Moth In Mouth’ and ‘One Thousand Pinholes In A Black Paper Sky’ are a sampling, with his homeland’s countryside an apparent inspiration. The piano-flecked swathes of clouds are punctuated by rhythmic glitches, adding subtle pins to this cloud atlas.

‘Between Buildings And Trees’ is entirely without words yet manages to convey a thoughful, sincere beauty.
