Continues to snap at the heels of PJ Harvey
Anais Mitchell - Young Man In America

Album number five from the New England songstress and, following the operatic construction of 2010’s ‘Hadestown’, it’s back to basics to a certain extent here. The key influence of Americana is omnipresent, but the lady has a heartful of soul with which to deliver. Instrumentally, the arrangements are well constructed, with some subtle brass sections adding refinement, whilst the lyrics remain of prime importance, with sensitivity, insightfulness and a sting at the end of the tail. The result is a sorrowful, yet captivating collection of songs, ensuring that Ms. Mitchell continues to snap at the heels of PJ Harvey in the female singer songwriter stakes.
