Albert Hammond Jr

Continuing to be the only member of The Strokes not seemingly afflicted by New York cool ennui, Albert Hammond, Jr. releases his second solo album in two years.

The first single from it, the oddly-titled GfC, features a lovely ringing guitar line that imbues the song with melancholy from the off. The downbeat mood runs throughout with Hammond’s howling of frustration, though the strutting rhythm stops everything getting too gloomy. Like The Shins on a downer, this is quality radio-friendly rock and while it won’t blow you away, it certainly has more than anything The Strokes have produced recently.
