The idea here was obviously to take Beatles song titles and chuck in a paper thin plot, so I’m doing the same.
Based on a screenplay by Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement who really shoulda known better, this cliché ridden musical will make you cry baby cry.
Boy works in Liverpool docks, goes to America, meets characters named after Beatles songs. Finds out love is all he needs after meeting Lucy (of sky and diamonds fame). Gets caught up in Sixties political upheaval using strawberries as bombs over footage of riots but the message knows not where it’s going to.
You know it ain’t easy, to take a bad film and make it better, an interlude with Bono (pointless) and Eddie Izzard (bizarre) doesn’t matter much to me nor anyone else.
Only time will tell if I’m right or if I’m wrong but if you surrender to this film you’ll realise it’s treating you bad…misery.
