Probably the biggest small festival in Europe, Oslo’s Oya can only squeeze in 15,000 punters but attracts some of the most notable names in rock over its four-day run. This August’s event featured triumphant sets from veteran noiseniks Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine, prancing cock-rockery from Nick Cave’s Grinderman, prancing rap-rockery from NERD, seminal soundscapes from Sigur Ros and Mogwai, a smorgasbord of on-it new US rock from Yeasayer, The National, Fleet Foxes, and the completely barmy Mae Shi, and some fine new Scandinavian talent in Casiokids, Elephant 9, Kaizers Orchestra and Lykke Li.
