The legacy of Factory Records looms large over British pop culture.

With their back catalogue as vital as ever, the imprint's maverick ethos is sorely needed in an industry dominated by accountants and balance sheets.

Perhaps new Manchester venue FAC 251 - The Factory could help trigger this. Using the re-vamped offices of the Factory label, the venue uses Hacienda architect Ben Kelly is partly the brainchild of one time New Order bass player Peter Hook.

Opening on Friday night (February 5th) the lavish three floor venue hosted a special set from Freebass. Formed by Peter Hook the band include former members of The Stone Roses and The Smiths... all playing the bass.

Mixing new material with little heard rarities from their former employers, Freebass brought the house down on a night which saw the doors of FAC 251 - The Factory well and truly flung open.
