Yoko Ono has teamed up with Sonic Youth pairing Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon for a new album.

Well, this sounds rather special. Sonic Youth have always been fuelled by New York's avant garde history, and now a new album finds Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon collaborating directly with a true icon.

Yoko Ono first entered New York in the early 60s, quickly making a dramatic impact on the city's artistic landscape. Returning to her groundbreaking roots, 'YOKOKIMTHURSTON' finds the vocalist engaging with the Sonic Youth pairing.

Out on September 25th in the United States and September 24th internationally, the material was seemingly laid down Manhattan’s Sear Sound last year. Seemingly a return to the free rock of the early Plastic Ono Band, the tracklisting for the release is as follows:

1 I Missed You Listening
2 Running the Risk
3 I Never Told You, Did I?
4 Mirror Mirror
5 Let's Get There
6 Early in the Morning

Pitchfork also point fans towards a previous performance between the three artists. Watch the trio perform Ono's 'Blueprint for a Sunrise' piece 'Mulberry' at L.A.'s Orpheum Theater back in 2010.
