Yellow Submarine Re-Make Planned
Beatles film to be over-hauled
Iconic 60s flick Yellow Submarine is to be re-made complete with The Beatles original soundtrack.
Aside from storming charts across the world with their music, The Beatles also had a long love affair with the silver screen. The Fab Four cemented their love affair with the public via a series of films which blended their music with the band's distinctive knockabout humour.
The group's film interests evolved along with their music. As the Liverpool band grew more experimental in the studio their films became more daring. The Fab Four's 'Magical Mystery Tour' aired on ITV in 1968, the same year as The Beatles released 'Yellow Submarine'.
An animated feature, visuals from the film have been much imitated. Tied to the peak of the 60s the unique animated style blended established animated techniques with ground breaking new visuals.
Now it seems as if the film is to be re-made. Reports from the United States suggest that Disney are keen to have the project re-made, with Oscar bagging director Robert Zemeckis due to helm the project.
Famed for his work on the 'Back To The Future' trilogy, the director is fresh from working on the forthcoming 3D film 'A Christmas Carol'. A new take on the festive favourite, it is thought that the same technology will be used on the updated Beatles flick.
Despite being closely tied to 'Yellow Submarine' the band themselves did not contribute directly to the film, with actors providing the voices of their characters.
Disney hope to have the new version of 'Yellow Submarine' ready for release by summer 2012, with the firm currently clearly access to use the Fab Four's back catalogue.
The Beatles, of course, are hot news all over again. The band are set to re-issue their back catalogue later this year with studio technicians in Abbey Road sprinkling the master tapes with some modern techniques.
