Yeah Yeah Yeahs On Collaboration

TV On The Radio put to the test

Brooklyn comeback trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs have given a new interview in which they reveal they put guest stars TV On The Radio through the wringer on their new album.

'It's Blitz' is now available, ending three years of semi-silence from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The album features a noticeable lack of guitars, with the band veering towards a more synth-pop inspired direction.

However the record does contain its fair share of stomping delights such as the group's new single 'Zero'. A varied collection it may well rank amongst Yeah Yeah Yeahs' most adventurous efforts to date.

Produced by Dave Sitek, the album was one of the last completed at his Brooklyn studio before it closed its doors. In order to spice things up, the band recruited some of his TV On The Radio chums to appear on new song 'Dragon Queen'.

However this was no old pals act, with singer Karen O so determined to make them do their parts right that the song took over 200 takes.

"We were looking to do a track which, personally, I felt would be on a more sexy side," the singer explained to NME. "David Sitek roped Tunde Adibimpe in from TV On The Radio to sing with us, and I think we must have done 200 versions of it, but in the end I think it has a little bit of a swagger, and a little bit of an intimacy that other tracks don’t necessarily have."

She added: "I would say that with that track, what we really want from the listener is for them to feel like their strolling in the park, in the misty park, or something like that."

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are set to be busy this summer after confirming a number of UK tour dates. On the festival front, the group are due to make several appearances including a no doubt show stopping slot at Scotland's T In The Park event.
