Wreckless Eric

Back on his original home Stiff Records, punk-poet Wreckless Eric is set to release a new album of collaborations with American singer Amy Rigby in September.

Best known for his semi-hit "Whole Wide Wide" in 1977, Wreckless Eric defined the contrary spirit of legendary punk indie Stiff Records, remaining true to his DIY roots. Now over 30 years since he released his first record, Wreckless Eric is back on the rejuvenated label with an album made in collaboration with US artist Amy Rigby.

Amy Rigy began life in New York garage group The Shams before beginning a career that embraced the best of 60s pop but with a strict DIY aesthetic. The two singers have joined together to create something very special, embracing influences from garage punk to bossa nova.

Now back on Stiff, Wreckless Eric had the following to say about the new relationship: "I got tired of people asking if I was bitter about how things went. It’s a long time ago now - in the words of an old Stiff slogan: He’s Not The Same, We’re Not The Same… When Trevor Horn and SPZ took over the label I called them. I said, ‘The music might be your property, but its my life. I don’t want to give you a hard time, I just want to get involved.’"

Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby will release their collaborative album in September, with UK dates to be announced.
