Wings Collaborator Dies

Sir Clement Freud passes away

Renowned broadcaster and politician Sir Clement Freud has passed away, aged 84.

The grandson of the renowned psycho-analyst Sigmund Freud, Sir Clement Freud had a varied career covering everything from politics to cookery. A prominent figure in British cultural circles he appeared as a panellist on the BBC's show Just A Minute regularly for over 30 years.

Freud captured the public's imagination due to his dry wit and mournful voice, with fellow panellist Tony Hawks remembered the author to the BBC.

"I had listened to the show as a boy, so meeting him was like meeting a hero," he told BBC Breakfast.

"You always knew he would be a challenging performer. Through his great intellect he'd always bring out the best in you."

The one time Liberal MP Freud was a well regarded figure in Parliament for more than two decades, with Liberal Democrat leader Nick Celgg paying tribute in a statement:

"Clement Freud was part of a generation of larger than life figures who kept the Liberal Party alive through thick and thin. They don't make people like that anymore and he will be sorely missed by millions"

Freud appears on the cover of the Wings' album 'Band On The Run'. In addition to this the broadcaster also performed a small monologue on the album.

Sir Clement Freud died yesterday (April 15th) aged 84.
