Winehouse Pleads Not Guilty
Court case begins
Troubled singer Amy Winehouse entered court today (March 17th) to plead not guilty to allegedly assaulting a fan.
Amy Winehouse has had a famously truculent relationship with her fans. When playing Glastonbury last summer she slapped an audience member before a live television audience of several million people.
In her defence Winehouse argued she felt she had been groped. However, her reputation has returned to haunt her with another allegation being made.
An un-named fan alleges that Winehouse reacted angrily to having her photograph taken and lashed out after an End of Summer Ball in Berkley Square last September.
Since the Winehouse has gained a divorce from her husband Blake Fielder-Civil and spent an extended period on holiday in the Caribbean. However she was arrested soon after arriving back in the country.
The singer arrived late for the hearing with her father. Winehouse's lawyer Mark Haslam apologised on her behald.
The case has already impacted upon the singer's career - Winehouse was due to play a set at the Coachella festival but was forced to to cancel. It is thought this was prompted by fears she would not get her Visa.
