Drake has seemingly intervened in Jermain Defoe's protracted move away from Tottenham Hotspur.
Hip hop seems to have taken soccer to its heart. Last year, for example, Snoop Dogg was linked to Celtic FC with rumours suggesting that he could potentially buy stock in the Glasgow institution.
Now Drake has entered the fray. Jermain Defoe is reportedly unsettled at Tottenham Hotspur, with Canadian MLS team Toronto FC rumoured to be courting the England international.
Seemingly, the 'Nothing Was The Same' has made a personal appeal to the footballer as part of his role as Toronto FC's 'worldwide ambassador'.
According to the Metro, Jermain Defoe was 'blown away' by Drake's personal approach. Defoe has been offered a four year deal beginning at £90,000 per week - it is expected that he will sign during the January window and then be loaned back to Spurs until the MLS season gets under way in March.
Of course, rap perhaps runs in Jermain Defoe's family - the footballer's half-brother was the influential grime MC Esco.
