White Stripes Perform On US TV

Farewell to Conan O'Brien

Seminal Detroit garage group The White Stripes performed together for the first time in eighteen months on the Conan O'Brien show on Saturday night (February 20th).

The group had not performed in public since Autumn 2007. The White Stripes were scheduled to play a tour of the United States later that year but cancelled due to Meg White suffering what was described a 'acute anxiety'.

It was the final instalment of 'Late Night With Conan O'Brien', with the host set to move to Los Angeles to take over The Tonight Show from legendary comedian Jay Leno.

O'Brien is a close friend of the band. The White Stripes performed a week long residency on the show in 2003, which helped boost their profile in the United States.

Introducing the band, the host said "I wasn't sure this would happen. I'm personally very thrilled we could make it happen tonight. Please welcome our very good friends The White Stripes."

The band played an unusual version of 'We're Going To Be Friends'. To see the performance just click below!
