White Lies To Take Break

No new material until 2010

One of the year's biggest success stories White Lies are set to take a break, with no new material expected to emerge until 2010.

With credit crunch knocking at your door and press hysteria over swine flu reaching breaking point, the mood of the nation is pretty bleak. A quick glance at the news sees thousands being laid off as MPs use public money to polish their chandeliers, with no end in sight for political strife.

Emerging at the tail end of last year, White Lies epic goth-rock sound seemed to capture the mood of the nation. Early singles such as 'Unfinished Business' seemed to hint at something much grander, and constant touring generated a phenomenal amount of hype around the group's debut album.

Yet when it finally arrived, 'To Lose My Life' seemed to live up to the grand claims. White Lies seemed able to see the beauty in darkness, the euphoria in despair. The album soared straight into the charts at number one, propelling White Lies into a world of arena tours and gold discs.

However fans could have a longer wait than they had anticipated for new material. Speaking to the BBC, lead singer Harry McVeigh said "Me and Charles (Cave, bass]) when we start writing the very basics of a song we need to be in the comfort of my home."

With a heavy touring schedule to fulfil - and the festival season fast approaching - it seems as if White Lies won't be able to work on new material for some time. The band recently finished a tour of North America, and are set to play massive slots at events such as T In The Park and Latitude.

"Unfortunately we are very very busy touring a lot this year," said McVeigh. "We're not a band who can write on the road.

"In early 2010 I think we'll try and get back into my house and sit at my keyboard and write some new stuff."

White Lies are set to release their cheerfully titled new single 'Death' on June 22nd.
