Weezer Make Live Return
Rivers Cuomo on the mend
American geek rockers Weezer have played their first show since a bus crash last year.
One of the best loved groups of their generation, Weezer blended the acerbic alt rock thrills of Pavement with a neat pop touch. Add in some quirky videos and you the band's career to date in a nutshell.
Touring across the United States late last year the band were involved in a serious bus crash. Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo had to be cut from the wreckage by emergency services, with the frontman enduring a stay in hospital.
Cancelling a series of tour dates across North America, Weezer returned to live duties on Wednesday (January 20th). Playing a show in Florida State University the band seemed on jovial form.
Writing on Weezer's official website a representative from the band claimed the show was an overwhelming success. "Well, all I can say is wow! What a crowd, what a show" they wrote.
"No one quite knew what to expect for tonights show, with the band off of the scene since early December, and Rivers returning to the stage for the first time since the bus accident that 86'ed the December and January tour dates. Not even Rivers knew what to expect. He knew he was still in some pain despite the doctor's green light, and wasnt sure of what his limitations were nor how hard he should push against them."
Given the all clear by doctors, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo managed to complete the show despite showing signs of ill health. Speaking to MTV the singer warned fans that "I've still got some injuries, so I won't be able to do my usual David Lee Roth routine."
Continuing, Rivers Cuomo claimed he was heading to a mediation retreat in order to recover from the shock of the crash. "I'm about to go under this 45-day meditation retreat, and one of the things that happens to me in these courses is that my memory gets razor-sharp, so I'm expecting that a lot of the accident is going to come back to me."
