Weezer Live DVD

Live release from US group

Celebrated American songwriter Rivers Cuomo of Weezer is set to release a new live DVD recorded in a record store in California.

Weezer are one of the America's best loved groups. The band took the shambling indie rock of acts such as Pavement and added a pop sheen, hitting the charts in the process. Sure, they might never top 'Pinkerton' and last year's self titled effort was greeted with general disdain, but that somehow hasn't dimmed anyone's enthusiasm towards them.

Frontman Rivers Cuomo recently released two albums of home demos, giving an insight into a truly unusual creative mind. Including early versions of some classic hits, alongside Cuomo's abandoned rock opera project, the albums have become cult favourites with fans.

To celebrate the release of 'Alone II - The Home Recordings Of Rivers Cuomo' the singer performed a very special set at Fingerprints record store in California. Joined by a host of friends and guest performers, the songwriter ran through some of his best loved tracks as well as a bunch of obscurities.

Cuomo sent a message to fans urging them to "dress sharp" and to join him in a makeshift band. The resulting gig was one of the singer's most memorable, with fans choosing a setlist that blended classic Weezer tracks with lesser known favourites.

The new release will come out on DVD and as a stand alone EP. In addition to this, the DVD will include the video for the Weezer track 'My Brain Is Working Overtime' and an interview with actor / musician Jason Schwartzman.

With Weezer currently on hiatus, this could well be the band's last release for some time.

Rivers Cuomo will release the new DVD 'Not Alone - Rivers Cuomo & Friends Live At Fingerprints' on April 28th.
