Heavy rain predicted

Heavy rain has hampered the opening of this summer's instalment of the Isle of Wight Festival.

The British summer is a curious, unpredictable beast. Swinging from extreme heat to dangerous storms, it can sometimes seem that the weather is out to spoil whatever outdoor activity you have planned.

A thought which has no doubt crossed the minds of those heading to the Isle of Wight festival this year. The site opened last night (June 21st) with fans from across the country descending on the festival in droves.

Transport is always tricky, but stormy weather this year has hampered ferries. Sky News are reporting that several fans were left stuck due to cancellations, with some spending the night in their car.

Thankfully, the storm clouds appear to be breaking up. The latest weather reports indicate that the Isle of Wight will still be effected by rain, but sunny spells should raise the moral of ticket holders.

Meanwhile, the musical treats will go ahead as scheduled. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are set to appear at the Isle of Wight, following the release of new album 'Wrecking Ball'.

A famously epic live act, Springsteen will be joined on the line up by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Fellow American legends, Petty & Co. haven't performed on British soil for almost a decade.

Isle of Wight runs between June 22nd - 24th. Line up:
