Wavves Lose Drummer

Billy Hayes leaves for pastures new

Wavves have lost drummer Billy Hayes after he walked out of the Los Angeles band.

It's been a big year for Wavves. The Californian group looked to be adrift when singer Nathan Williams crumpled onstage in Spain in 2009, having given himself an extremely liberal dose of MDMA.

Taking time off, the singer returned with a re-vamped versions of Wavves. When Jay Reatard lost his backing band Williams seized his opportunity welcoming Billy Hayes and bass player Stephen Pope into the fold.

Since then, the renewed group have released a much improved second album, beaten Black Lips in a bar fight and toured across the globe. However nothing is ever straight forward with Wavves and the band are again looking for a new drummer.

Their third in a little over two years, Wavves lost Billy Hayes when the drummer walked out of their current tour. The Los Angeles band have opted to carry on, with former Mae Shi sticksman Jacob Cooper filling in.

Stateside blog Kids Like You & Me broke the news, although Wavves have yet to comment on the departure.

However Nathan Williams does need some help on his web page. "any good web designers out there? holler at me. send examples" he wrote. Get in touch HERE.

Due to complete their current tour in a matter of days, the band will end an eventful 12 months with another bout of drama. On a rather more pleasant note, Nathan Williams recently recorded a duet with his current beau Bethany Cosentino.

Lead singer in Best Coast, the pair are one of the hottest couple in indie rock and the collaboration is something of an inevitability. However the thought of the pair lazing around California, looking after their cat and writing Christmas jingles is something to cherish.

Best Coast / Wavves Christmas single is out now.
