Warners Vs Youtube Row
Royalties Discussion Fails
A row has broken out between major label Warner Music and the music website Youtube, with Warners set to remove all copyrighted material from the site after discussions on royalties broke down.
The massive Warner Music group form a significant part of the Recording Industry Association of America, and this move may lead to other labels following suit. Warner Music have a roster that includes Metallica, Madonna and Led Zeppelin amongst many others.
The company have decided to remove all promos, official live footage, unofficial live footage and other copyrighted material after they failed to negotiate a deal with Youtube over shared royalties.
A statement from Warner Music reads, "We simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide."
Youtube have yet to make statement in response.
