Emily Eavis offers band slot

New York afrobeat merchants Vampire Weekend are set to play Glastonbury after Emily Eavis contacted them on Twitter.

Glastonbury remains one of Britain's most important musical events. Returning for its 40th anniversary the festival has moved from generation to generation, retaining its underground allure.

With the baton being handed from Michael Eavis to daughter Emily, the 40th anniversary spectacular is set to contain a series of very special performances. As ever, the line up is being kept under wraps until the last moment.

However in a new move Emily Eavis has let slip one band confirmed for the bill: Vampire Weekend. Performing live on BBC 6Music presenter Lauren Laverne asked the band if they were playing Glastonbury.

The New York band claimed they would if they were asked, sparking Emily Eavis to log in to Twitter. Writing on her page the festival organiser wrote: "YES, FRIDAY 25th?"

Continuing Emily Eavis claimed "they have already been booked I promise!"

It seems that Vampire Weekend are now due to play Glastonbury on the Friday night (June 25th). The band are fresh from an unusual show at London's Somerset House where they played to an audience of ice-skaters.

Unveiling their new album 'Contra' the band caused several skaters to crash due to the excitement of the music. Vampire Weekend are now set to play Glastonbury, with other confirmed headliners including U2.

Glastonbury takes place between June 25th - 27th.
