Unheard Bowie Song Auctioned
Joe Meek Collection To Be Sold
A rare recording by David Bowie's first group will go up for auction tomorrow - and can be heard online right now.
Before he set about creating a gender re-alignment in pop, Bowie was a veteran of the British r'n'b circuit and recorded with a group called The Konrads. The track which is up for auction is "Mocking Bird", and presumably has no relation to the Charlie and Inex Foxx soul classic.
The single will be sold as part of a collection of rare Joe Meek recordings. Over 5,000 discs will be up for sale and are expected to go for about £300,000 at the "It's More Than Rock 'N' Roll" auction in London.
As well as the Bowie track, the collection also includes a rare Tom Jones track that hasn't been broadcast since 1962 as well as many other rare discs.
