Tunabunny Head To The UK

Athens, G.A. is sending its prime noisepop quartet Tunabunny to the UK this week, on a tour that covers a good deal of the country and takes in the wondrous Indietracks festival (Camera Obscura, The Pastels, Bis etc.) on the way: you are advised to catch them while you can.

The four-piece (two boys, two girls) have received almost universal acclaim for each of their three albums so far, with critics relishing the task of getting their heads around the way Tunabunny’s demented polemic is laced with claws-out kitten-y sweetness.

The songs are smart, shouty, messy, precise, contrary, unnerving, inventive, fun and pointed in perfectly satisfying proportions; the gloriously vivacious twin-girl-vocals never settle on the easy harmony when there’s disquiet to be fomented by sliding down a few microtonal notches.

There’s early, haywire/genius Throwing Muses in the mix; the Breeders with their relentless careering beat; the ferocity of Bikini Kill and the scratty wired thrill of UK’s great lost Riot Grrl band, Coping Saw, whose firebrand mainstay and legend in her own right, Karren Ablaze! will be travelling on the Tunabunny bus this tour, reading extracts of her recent book, 'The City Is Ablaze!'.

As long-time fan Everett True says of them: "This music makes me deliriously happy. It clatters, it splatters, it shatters, it matters".

Ahead of the tour, watch the video for 'Airplanes For Echelon' on Clash.
