The past decade in electronic music is dominated by endless division, divorce and abstraction.
However every so often, a track comes along which unifies the tribes, which parties down the barriers and brings genres together. Released back in 2006, 'At Night' did just that - if only for a while.
Crafted by Simon Neale and released under his Dave Spoon alter ego, the track shuffled through electro, house and tech to craft something irresistible.
Released on Toolroom Records, the imprint is toasting its tenth anniversary with a fresh re-issue. Handing 'At Night' to three very different producers, with Tom Staar adding a big room flourish while Leonardo Gonnelli delivers a tasteful slice of tech house.
For our latest Track of the Day, though, Clash has opted for something rather more new school. Shadow Child and T. Williams have paired up, adding a buoyant house spring which is filtered through an adolescence spent listening to UK garage.
Underneath the euphoria, though, there are remnants of that cold, tech-house edge - an emptiness on the dancefloor, a longing in the night.
