'Folk' seems to carry with it certain connotations.
In men, it implies a certain wearisome authenticity, usually accompanied with a beard and a thick woollen shirt. In women, it can often imply vulnerability, an at times patronising paradigm which smothers rather than inspires.
Annie Eve is folk but - as usual - that's not the half of it. A Goldsmiths student, the rising songwriter has a bluntness, an emotional impact which contains a rare intensity.
Attracting the attention of the Young & Lost Club, new EP 'Feversome' is a taut, confident and above all highly effective introduction.
Out now, Clash is able to premiere a new video from the London based artist. 'Shuffle' is a breezy acoustic track, buoyed by a neat summertime rhythm and some beautiful melody lines.
Yet underneath this Annie Eve implies a certain darkness, a sense of loss or melancholy. Matching live footage to crashing waves, the distorted visuals of the video are beautiful in a bruised, vulnerable manner.
