If this here guitar revival is going to actually amount to anything, then it needs to get a bit of confidence. Not necessarily a swagger – we’ve had a little too much of that in the past – but more a certainly of direction, a certain amount of knowing that you’re good.
Something which Story Books certainly seem to have. Sure, we can’t tell is this is genuine bravado (we’ve never made their acquaintance) but the band have a directness, an ability to cut to the heart of the matter which gets us rather exciting.
A limited edition vinyl release last year saw the Kent five piece picked up by radio, with ever enthusiastic Radio 1 host Zane Lowe labelling them his ‘Next Hype’. Upcoming EP ‘Too Much A Hunter’ (supported by Communion, no less) should see the band break out.
Due for release on April 29th, it’s packed with soaring choruses and immaculately tailored verses, with Story Books able to add a panoramic view to their songwriting. Ahead of the new EP, ClashMusic have been able to grab the exclusive first play of ‘All Those Arrows’ – built for huge crowds and grand venues, you can dive in below.
