Bristol is a hive, a network of streets, artists, promoters and labels.
A seething mass of creativity, the city is perhaps best known for its electronic output. Yet this is to miss the bigger picture, with Bristol's guitar scene enjoying something of a boom of late.
With their sharp edges, sprawling membership and DIY tendencies, Empty Pools are perhaps indicative of the new mood rippling through the city's music scene. Pushing ahead, the band have released a handful of singles to date which display a real, palpable sense of promise.
Essentially working in the post-punk sphere, Empty Pools seem to rejoice in unanswered questions, in what they term "new parts, sounds and structural ideas". Debut album 'Saturn Reruns' is due to be released on November 4th, with Battle Worldwide stepping in to support the group.
Stripped from the album, 'Slack Tide' is all bubbling rhythms, collapsing bass lines and a smooth acoustic guitar to hold everything together.
Subtle, poetic and gently anthemic, you can listen to it below.
Empty Pools have confirmed the following shows:
12 Bristol Simple Things Festival
2 Bristol Rise (album launch)
9 London Betsey Trotwood (Battle 1st Birthday)
