Track Of The Day 4/11 - Mella Dee

Ripe Traxx
Mella Dee

Sharp, versatile and consistently on point, Doncaster soundboy Mella Dee has spent much of 2013 fine-tuning his hard as nails brand of bassline house and although still revered for genre-blurring garage cuts alongside Woozee under their 'Mista Men' moniker, you sense he's found his new vocation.

Set to end the year with a stellar debut EP for new imprint Shabby Doll, a two-track vinyl outing with accompanying remixes of title track 'Things Don't Change' from James Welsh and OUSHE, it's B-side 'Ripe Traxx' that we're really digging.

First and foremost, it's just great, good-times dance music but with Mella, there's an underlying rudeness to his productions that continually sets him apart from others operating in the same space.

The rolling, low-end bass bangs on Ripe Traxx definitely aren't those of just any old house producer and for all it's groove, it's the darker elements of Mella's sound that makes this one really sing.

Certified dancefloor ammunition.

'Things Don't Change' is set to be released on November 4th.
