Track Of The Day 29/8 - Phlo Finister

Coca Cola Classic (Fwdslxsh Remix - feat. Taurean Roye)
Phlo Finister

Pop as future shock. Commercial pressure as a means to provoke creativity.

In the 90s, R&B stood as one of the most forward thinking genres around. Polished and slick into hyper-reality, the genre was ferociously competitive yet managed to allow producers such as Missy Elliot, Timbaland and more space to do their thing.

The past 18 months have seen the aesthetic used as a continual reference point, but few do it better than Phlo Finister. A Los Angeles based artist, her sultry, provocative take on the R&B template is born from a childhood spend learning the latest TLC dance moves.

Phlo Finister's debut EP emerged earlier this summer via Night Beach, adding a dark, languid sensibility to R&B which also retained its essential sense of glamour. London collective Last Night In Paris are clearly fans, and approached the singer about a potential remix.

Handed the stems for 'Coca Cola Classic' they proceeded to push and pull the track apart as they saw fit, adding a few nods towards the splinters of UK bass culture as well as their own fragrant electronics.
