American dance music is receiving an incredibly bad press of late.
Sometimes it can seem like the United States is a nation built on cliff-face Skrillex style drops and frat boy house, casually ignoring the fact that our American cousins invented electronic dance music in the first place.
Thankfully, a few noble souls are working to correct this. Andrew Bayer is a new name, but his sound builds on some of the forward thinking souls (think Flying Lotus, think VVV, think Nicolas Jaar, even) which float around him.
Educated at Berklee Music College, the producer is able to impact a wider sense of composition onto his work. De-constructing the way dance music is formulated, Andrew Bayer patiently builds the fragments up into something new, something quite unusual.
Second album 'If It Were You, We'd Never Leave' is almost poetic in its treatment of electronic beats, with Andrew Bayer using light and shade to suggest allusions, references which remain tantalisingly out of grasp.
Ane Brun adds her vocals to 'Lose Sight' and as a special preview ClashMusic are able to stream a Ghosting Season remix of this track. Mainstays in the left field electronic sphere, the Manchester duo are perfectly at home with Bayer's aesthetic - stretching, shifting his work, they are able find themselves in the immense space afforded by the American's production.
Listen to it now.
'Lose Sight' is out on Monday through Anjunabeats.
