Track Of The Day 25/4 – Equals

'Daylight Dreaming'

Equals are perhaps the best connected duo in London.

James Low and Ade Omotayo are wholly immersed in the city's creative scene, and their reputation has blossomed as a result.

Yet it's the pair's electronic soul fusion that truly impresses. Equals have a stunning melodic touch, an ability to craft furiously intelligent R&B melters that cut deeper than most.

Taking time out, Equals have focussed on their music, honing and refining each beat, each chord in the process.

New cut 'Daylight Dreaming' marks their return, and it's an imposing piece of electronics with just a dash of pop on top.

James Low was friends with the late cultural theorist and writer Mark Fisher, and with the blessing of Mark's family a quote from a talk he gave last year opens the cut.

"The dream we live in in Britain is a constant anxiety dream, dominated by urgencies," he says, allowing Equals to fuse sunshine pop with something just a little darker.

A wonderful return, you can check it out below.
