Hardly There
My Sad Captains

Sometimes great bands, talented musicians just fall through the cracks.

My Sad Captains should be massive - their cupboards should be overflowing with accolades, bank machines should spew forth money at their command.

Yet they're not quite there. Bella Union have stepped in to snap up the quartet, with third album 'Best Of Times' emerging last month. A wonderfully slow burning record, it's fragrant dream pop is matched to a shrewd songwriting sense stepped in a very real, very down to Earth sense of British life.

Matching the sublimely poetic with the grimly ordinary, 'Best Of Times' makes for repeated listen, with each dip into their waters seeming to reveal something new, something different.

Taken from the album, new single 'Hardly There' is a low key gem. Built atop of shuffling, probing rhythm section, the song builds and builds in intensity across its six minute span.

Directed by Jamie Jenkinson - with art direction from Amy Dickson - the accompanying video translates these fluttering currents into visuals.

Distorted yet beautiful, it's an entrancing, vivid document.

Watch it now.
