Icelandic people have a reputation for patience.
After all, life on the island is a lot slower than any metropolitan area. Winter nights drag on towards eternity, while the glaciers which hug the Icelandic north can be measured in Millennia, not days, weeks or months.
Patience is a virtue which Ásgeir Trausti knows well. The songwriter carefully hones his material, working on his craft in relative seclusion.
Releasing his debut album ‘Dyrd i daudathogn’ (‘In the Silence’) last year, the artist's patience seemed to be rewarded. Breaking records in his homeland, Ásgeir Trausti was forced to wait for appreciation elsewhere.
Yet the songwriter has found an unlikely advocate in John Grant. The American artist currently lives in Iceland, and has helped Trausti prepare an English language version of his debut album - even assisting in the translation of the lyrics.
Ásgeir Trausti recently journeyed to the UK, and recorded a quick live session at London's legendary Toe Rag studio complex. John Grant was on hand, alongside a camera crew who captured a tender, enticing performance.
