Australia's music scene is busy throwing off the shackles of pre-conception.
The past 18 months has witnessed a flood-tide of electronic talent, with everyone from Chet Faker to Flume, Seekae to Flight Facilities.
Now it could be the turn of Australian hip hop. A series of newcomers are pushing boundaries, shaping new sounds and building a new template for Australian rap.
Remi Kolawole records under the name REMI, matching a love for classic hip hop sounds with a searing polemical tongue. Causing a sensation in his native land, the rapper is set to make his UK debut in October.
As a taster, Clash is able to bring you 'Ode To Ignorance'. Riding a phat beat, REMI blasts Australia's hypocritical attitude to race asking pointedly: "when was the last time you saw a black person in Neighbours?"
Strangely, the time it's taken for REMI's music to land on our shores has allowed producers to cast an aboriginal actor for the very first time in their history... perhaps they've been listening?
Check it out now.
REMI will release debut album 'Raw X Infinity' in the UK on August 25th - catch the rapper at London venue Birthdays on October 29th.
