'Mace Windu Riddim'

Word is out on Ezra Collective.

The jazz outfit's supreme show at London's Islington Assembly Hall last year just won a Jazz FM Award, with Kamasi Washington watching them pick it up from stage left.

With a slew of festival and headline dates planned, Ezra are taking their sound across the country and beyond, preaching the gospel each and every night.

New release 'Mace Windu Riddim' comes at the perfect time. It's a summer banger that pops from the first note, the elastic bass mirrored by those trickling keyboard notes from Joe Armon-Jones.

Drummer Femi Koleoso brings it all together, his sheer purpose and frank sense of groove pushing the physicality of the sound, reminding us that jazz has always been a body music, as well as the mind.

Online now, 'Mace Windu Riddim' comes from that 'Wot Do U Call It?' moment in UK jazz - a feeling that all rules are off, that everything is in upheaval and new possibilities can occur with each passing note.
