Kitsune are a very European label. In terms of approach, taste and output the imprint could only really exist in Paris, a place where fashion and music share common DNA.
Yet Kitsune have a global outlook. The French label have long looked beyond their own borders, searching across countries, continents for new talent. New compilation 'Kitsune America 2' finds the label returning to the United States. A cross section of new electronic music, the imprint veers between house and disco, techno and electro.
Gigamesh is one of the stand out producers on the recent album. Real name Matt Masurka, the beatsmith came of age in Minnesota where his isolation helped to fuel a broad-ranging palette of influences.
At heart, Gigamesh makes house music, with his productions having those Chicago sprung rhythms. Yet the cold synths are half-inched from the cocaine chic of Italo Disco, while the producer also cites a fondness for cinematic soundtracks.
Borrowed from the new compilation, 'GOTF' - Get On the Floor - is a straight up party smasher. Fun without being cheesy, buoyant without being lightweight this is an anthem in waiting.
