Track Of The Day 1/4 - Mo Kenney

SUCKER
Mo Kenney

It's remarkable that an artist such as Mo Kenney is only now approaching her debut album.

The rising Canadian songwriter has already scooped numerous awards, with established names such as Ron Sexsmith singing her plaudits.

Yet here we are, discussing the debut offering from Mo Kenney. Self-titled, 'Mo Kenney' will be released in this country through Middle Of Nowhere Recordings - the Scottish label associated with Rachel Sermanni.

Working with Joel Plaskett, the results are simple yet beautifully enticing. "Joel and I are the only musicians playing on the album" Kenney explains. "He definitely influenced the production. Joel is such a hard worker and he really knows his stuff."

Struggling to describe her music, Mo Kenney opts for “pop music with a folky twist. It is pop-y as they're often short and catchy little songs. I wanted to stay away from the typical singer/songwriter thing and do something a little different."

It's definitely 'a little different'. Clash is able to premiere the video for new track 'SUCKER', a song which revolves around a simple vocal hook and lyrics which seem to delve down into deeper and deeper layers.

The video itself is fairly simple, utilising some psychedelic shades as Mo Kenney sings into the camera.

Watch it now.
