Funny how electronic music is often described in such visual terms.
Genre name aside, can house ever really be deep? And what does that infer? Anjunadeep's output of late can certainly be tagged thus, but without the bass trappings of their UK counterparts. It's simply soulful, meaningful, emotional... deep.
A loose knit conglomerate of DJs, promoters and industry champions, Anjunadeep launched their renowned compilation series last year. Each mix is completely different, featuring countless exclusive edits, remixes, brand new tracks and golden oldies.
The fifth instalment comes with two mixes, the first of which is handled by label lynchpin James Grant. A measured, focussed mix, it's chilled without being 'chill out', containing a soothing ambience without being 'ambient'.
Out on July 15th, the mix contains an exclusive remix of Australian group The Presets. 'It's Cool' is initially a clinical piece of synth pop, the sort of controlled songwriting the Antipodean partnership specialise in.
Andrew Bayer and James Grant have stepped in on remix duties, adding a more literal edge to 'It's Cool'. Featuring some wonderfully calm production, there's a bubbling edge which suggests a ferocious heat being kept under lock and key.
Listen to it now.
