Top Of The Pops To Return
Festive Editions Planned
British pop telly institution Top Of The Pops is set to return over the festive period with two massive special editions planned, it has been announced.
The show has been on hiatus for some time, and the BBC recently dropped its annual Christmas special from the winter schedule. After no small measure of public outcry, including an attempt by Simon Cowell to buy the franchise for ITV, the BBC have announced that the show will return at Christmas.
Two editions of the pop show are planned, with specials due for Christmas and New Year set to be hosted by Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates. These shows are usually 'best of the year' editions, and will hopefully favor the likes of Kings Of Leon and Coldplay over the ubiquitous X Factor winners.
“The shows will form the centrepiece of a massive musical offering during the festive season that we hope viewers are really going to enjoy," BBC One controller Jay Hunt said.
Top Of The Pops has been a continual talking point the entire year, with the government's Culture Secretary Andy Burnham calling for its return at the In The City conference in Manchester.
