Thurston Moore Starts Publishing Firm

Sonic Youth guitarist to publish art books

Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore is set to launch a new venture with the announcement that the musician has formed a publishing company.

Thurston Moore has always combined literature with rock music. The New York scene that spawned Sonic Youth could see a poet support a rock group during shows, with no divide between artistic disciplines.

The guitarist has even published his own books, writing tomes on the 'No Wave' scene and the glories of the mixtape. Now the Sonic Youth man is set to branch out and form his own publishing company.

Named 'Ecstatic Peace Library' the guitarist is set to release books by a number of close friends and key influences.

Raymond Pettibon acted as the in house designer at SST Records during the 80s, with his distinctive black and white line drawings adorning albums by Black Flag and The Minutemen. Of course, he is perhaps best known for the stark design that accompanies the Sonic Youth album 'Goo'.

Thurston Moore's new publishing company are set to release a book length compilation of Raymond Pettibon's art work. Accompanying this will be art books written by Dave Markey and Moore's wife - and Sonic Youth bass player - Kim Gordon.

The new publishing company follows in the footsteps of Thurston Moore's record company 'Ecstatic Peace' which has released records and cassettes by artists such as Be Your Own Pet, Andrew WK and Magik Markers.

'Ecstatic Peace Library' is set to launch later this year.
