The Wombats are the latest group to take control of Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show, and the indie group brought in guest stars such as Sir Paul McCartney and The Killers.

New Zealand DJ Zane Lowe has gone on holiday, and in his stead an array of guests have filled the bum-groove in his chair at Radio 1. The Wombats are the latest group to step behind the microphone, and held a phone interview with Sir Paul McCartney in which he gets nostalgic about his time in The Beatles.

"George was quite a sort of fun guy I remember once really at the beginning of Beatles time there was just me George and John and we must have been 17 or 18, just kids and we got a gig at a wedding. And we didn't know the people or anything but we suddenly were the entertainment. And I remember George took a dislike to this blond rinsed lady."

"To us she seemed really old she was probably about 30 or something! She said something to him I don't know telling him off or something and he just took his pint of beer and just held it above her head and just poured it on her blond rinse and we were like leg it!"

The Wombats also interviewed The Killers and were responsible for telling the Las Vegas group they had been nominated for a number of Brit Awards.
