The Vaccines have posted a new four track EP containing some lo-fi cover versions.
The Vaccines have always worn their influences on their sleeve. The band claim to be a mixture of hugely different styles, placing The Ramones next to classic pop, twee indie next to acoustic songcraft.
Now the band have posted a quickfire EP of cover versions. Containing four tracks, the material was seemingly recorded by Justin Young in a hotel room.
Opening with a cut from Nick Lowe, the eclectic range of choices shed light on the influences running through the band. Punk greats Wire are represented, as is Jonathan Richman and - somewhat incongruously - Abba.
Tracklisting:
1. The Vaccines – The Beast In Me (Nick Lowe)
2. The Vaccines – Mannequin (Wire)
3. The Vaccines – The Winner Takes It All (Abba)
4. The Vaccines - That Summer Feeling (Jonathan Richman)

ClashMusic recently sat down with The Vaccines's Freddie Cowan. Probed about the state of guitar music, he replied: "I don’t think it’s in danger necessarily, but I do think pop music has declined to a kind of really awful point. I love pop music, but the radio I hear...it’s been degraded to such a low point where the hooks aren’t even words anymore, they’re just noises".
It's an engrossing read, find it HERE.
