The Strokes Talk New Album
Sounds like Thin Lizzy, allegedly
New York giants The Strokes have confirmed that they have written most of their fourth album.
The Strokes have been gone for too long. Having revitalised guitar music with their seminal debut album 'Is This It?' the band are one of the most influential of the past ten years, sparking an indie revolution.
However after the band's third album 'First Impressions Of Earth' was released in 2005 The Strokes took a break. Since then, the various members have engaged on a series of side projects but a new album could be on the horizon.
The Strokes were due to reconvene this year to work on new material. Scheduled to be released next year the album has been pushed back due to each member's busy schedule.
Currently preparing to release his own solo album, singer Julian Casablancas confirmed that the new album is largely written already.
"We're supposed to have done it already, but it got pushed back," the singer told XFM. "We worked on it for months, we have most of the songs written. It's just a question of getting all five dudes in the room."
Continuing, Julian Casablancas claimed that the band's quality control prevents them from rushing out new material. "The Strokes (is) a tough musical jury," he claimed.
"If something is going to survive it's got to pretty much please five incredibly picky dudes. That's the great thing about the band, but it can sometimes be stifling."
Casblancas did drop a few hints as to what form the band's new songs would take. "I have wish that it would sound like Thin Lizzy, but if they could peer into the future and have 80s melodies. Like a super-tight late-70s rock band but with a-ha moments, if that makes sense."
The Strokes are set to release their new album next year.
