The Other Cinema Presents ‘Brief Encounter’

A Global Network of Pop Up Cinema Events

Future Cinema, the organization behind Secret Cinema are pleased to launch The Other Cinema – a global network of pop up cinemas looking to bring back a sense of community, passion and a social experience to cinema-going. The Other Cinema will screen one beautiful and vital film each month in a mix of unique and non-traditional venues including former picture palaces, town halls, libraries, churches, parks, youth clubs, universities, schools, hospitals, prisons, oil rigs, army camps and many more.

The Other Cinema will meet once a month on the same night all over the world, launching on Valentine’s evening, 14th February 2012, with one of the most romantic and beautiful films of all time, David Lean’s “Brief Encounter”. Simultaneous screenings will take place in Edinburgh, Leeds, Birmingham and Norwich as well as other locations to be confirmed around the UK and globally.

Future Cinema will produce the official launch event at the stunning former Picture Palace, The Troxy in the East End of London. We will return the Picture Palace of East London to its days of glory with usherettes and an audience encouraged to dress in black-tie each carrying a flower for a lover or a stranger.
