The Flaming Lips To Cover Pink Floyd
At New Year's Eve show
Oklahoma psych-rockers The Flaming Lips have confirmed plans to play Pink Floyd's classic album 'Dark Side Of The Moon' in its entirety.
The Flaming Lips began life as a bizarre rolling collective of musicians who wanted to test the barriers of rock music. The band once released a four disc album which was designed to be played simultaneously, before retreating into more streamlined songwriting.
Returning to their roots on new album 'Embryonic'. A stunning return it showed Flaming Lips eager to experiment, with some of their most striking material to date.
Now the band are set to play a very special show, in which they will cover Pink Floyd's legendary album 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. The gig is set to take place on New Year's Eve in the group's hometown of Oklahoma City, with the show opening at midnight.
So let's recap: The Flaming Lips. Pink Floyd. At midnight. On New Year's Eve. Trippiest show ever? Perhaps.
The Flaming Lips have uploaded a poster to the show on their official website, with the bill also featuring fellow Oklahoma act Stardeath And White Dwarfs, who feature Coyne's nephew Dennis Coyne on vocals.
The new announcement comes as Flaming Lips confirm they have recorded 'Dark Side Of The Moon' for an iTunes release in the future. The album is reportedly due to be released next year and features a raft of guest appearances.
Canadian electro filth merchant Peaches is set to feature on the album, with punk icon Henry Rollins also due to appear.
