The Fall Take Glasgow
Manchester legends play Hinterland
The inaugural instalment of Hinterland got underway last night (April 30th) and ClashMusic was there every step of the way.
Few cities have the musical allure of Glasgow. From the days of Alex Harvey onwards the Scottish city has produced countless stunning acts, many of whom have gone on to enjoy international success.
Hinterland aims to showcase emerging Scottish talent alongside some of the finest acts from elsewhere. Launching with DJs at a very special opening ceremony in the Arches, Bis hero Manda Rin was the first act to take the stage. Glasgow group Fangs celebrated their recent debut single with a set in the Art School, while over in Nice N Sleazy electronic star Remember Remember was playing a typically stunning set.
A quick waltz back to legendary dance spot The Arches saw London group Metronomy play a stunning set. Recent album ‘Lights Out’ is brought to vivid life, with lead singer Joseph Mount taking time to praise the crowd.
Stonehaven group Copy Haho were the next to impress, with their Pavement inspired shapes going down a treat. However we were due for a quick dash upstairs as Manchester legends The Fall were playing. Now signed to Domino, Mark E Smith showed no signs of mellowing with a ferocious set.
Stalking the stage like an embittered drunk, the singer paused to randomly turn his guitar player’s amp off before slamming his fist into the keyboard. Showing the audience no concessions, the band played a host of new tracks with Smith at one point ranting “I’m 50 what are you?”.
Hinterland continues tonight (May 1st).
