Cosmic scousers The Coral are preparing to look back over their career with the news that the band are preparing to release a singles collection on September 15th.
While The Coral are perhaps best known for their frenetic collision of genres, the band have also carved out a reputation as one of Britain's best singles bands. Rarely a summer goes by with a lilting melody by the group gluing itself to British radio, with songs such as "Dreaming Of You" and "In The Morning" becoming indie staples.
Lead singer and songwriter James Skelly is a true under-rated talent, his pop touch submerged beneath the band's reputation as a jaunty scousers. In reality, The Coral's work is by turns touching, thought-provoking yet always melodic, in the great tradition of Liverpool bands such as Shack or The La's.
It's a sobering thought that despite their reputation as older members of the indie scene, the band still have a few years left of their twenties - they were barely out of school when they were signed!
The Coral release their "Singles Collection" on September 15th. It will be preceded by the single "Being Somebody Else" on September 8th - available on limited edition 7 inch and download.
